Acer C205 mini projector review

by Jane on February 4, 2016

Editors review: A portable model for business or classroom presentations is the best way to describe the Acer C205 mini projector. Although it does provide moderately high brightness for a mini this would be something for presentations made in smaller rooms to smaller groups of people, rather than large venues.

Who should not buy it? If you are considering buying this model to as a portable movie or gaming projector. Do not. It may be OK for presentations but the overall image quality and resolution (WVGA 854 x 480) will not satisfy for movies.

Small room presentations

The exterior shell, sliver/white rectangular shaped with rounded edges it attractive. It’s compact 5.7 x 4.3 x 1.1 (L x W x H) and lightweight (11.2 ounces). Overall, it’s not a bad choice in its price range. But it does have limitations worth mentioning.

One of these limitations is connectivity which are limited to HDMI and MHL inputs. While these connections might satisfy the needs of many, others might need more (USB port or project their data using a USB thumb drive or mircoSD card).

The overall the connectivity of the Acer C205 with HDMI and MHL is not in the stone ages but if you are looking for models with increased connectivity, Lumex BeamPod Mini DLP Pocket Mobile and the AAXA P4-X Pico Projector. Both are similarly priced.

Limited to small room use. We mentioned this at the top of the page but need to be clear. We recommend this projector only for small room use. Watch the video above to get a good feeling for the type of space we are talking about.

A few strengths of the Acer C205

Not only is it compact and lightweight, there is also a rechargeable built-in battery which provides 2-hours of cable-free playtime. Making this a truly portable mini! Some other models also offer a built-in battery but the majority of mini models do not. If this feature is important to you then make sure to read the description or specification sheet to learn if the model you are about to buy also includes a built-in battery.

The light source of this model is powered by LED. This is rated to last 20,000 hours.  How many hours per week you will you use it? The light source will probably last you a lifetime.

Provides extremely easy set-up and connection to a laptop through the HDMI port. This is shown at the beginning of the review video at the top of the page.

Audio from the twin 2-watt speakers is of decent quality, and should be fine for a small room. This puts the C205 ahead of the many palmtop projectors that are barely audible unless you’re sitting very close to them.

Hello Fred, I agree compared to many other mini projectors in this price range the speakers are superior.
