Last updated 3/2016:

This list is edited on a regular basis to include new models and discounted older models. On this page you will find our current top picks for the best projectors under $200 (or around this price range).  We don’t want to leave a very good choice off the list if it happens to be a few dollars over.

Find models for: Home Theater, gaming, business and classroom presentation models, portable, mini, pocket or pico and those that run on traditional lamps and LED light sources.

Top picks in the around $200 price range

As we said, there will be models listed here which might be more expensive than 200 dollars but we try to keep it as close as possible while still providing the best suggestions.

Home Theater Projector $200

DB Power RD-806

The DB Power RD-806 Hd Home Theater Projector is an example of one a bit over this dollar mark. We are listing this model for movies and home entertainment (gaming), however, it could also work for business and school presentations.

Provides 1200 x 800 resolution and 2800 lumens of brightness. Giving the user the ability to create a screen image size range between 50 – 200 inch diagonal. The projector is bright enough to be use with room lights on but the image quality is greater when viewed in a darker environment. Considering the relatively low cost these are impressive specifications.

Connectivity ports (image below): 2 x HDMI, 2 x USB, VGA, AUDIO, Video. The ports provide all the user to connect to virtually any external device: DVD, Blue-Ray, PC, Laptop, gaming consoles. The projector does include built-in speakers, however, the audio port will the user to connect to an external audio device.

best home movie projectors under $200

Receiving many positive reviews from buyers the DB Power RD-806 Hd Home Theater Projector is quite a popular at this price range. This model provides excellent value vs. price.

LED projector under 200 dollarsThe Digital Galaxy DG-737 is not a projector for presentations. We loaded an old PowerPoint up, the text looks awful. However, this is a LED with 20,000 hours of lamp life, if you are looking for a low priced option for movies and/or gaming it can provide a decent experience.

There are hundreds of different people who already bought and reviewed this model. It would be worth taking the time to read some of the more detailed reviews both positive and negative at Amazon.

Our experience: The projector doesn’t possess great brightness, you will want to use this in a darker room environment for the best image quality. It does include a HDMI port so we were able to connect with HDTV, PS4, DVD and laptop with no issues.

Image size: We tested the image quality at different image diagonals. The Digital Galaxy DG-737 can create larger but in our opinion, once past the 100-inch diagonal screen image the quality of the image degrades.

Overall: Don’t expect anything spectacular but for the price it can provide a decent experience for movies and gaming at a 100-inch screen image.

What’s a good cheap choice for both presentations and home entertainment?

Quality movie projector under 200

The Epson PowerLite EMP-82 Projector is another option providing value. Not to say this is necessarily bad but the majority of choices on this page will be from off-brands. That’s just the way it goes once we go below a certain dollar amount. However, this is not the case here. Epson is the world’s leading manufacture of projectors and well-known for quality products.

Note: This model is a little older and has been discontinued by the company and is only currently available in”used or refurbished condition”. There are some positives, it provides great brightness and great colors as Epson is known for.

There are negatives, this is not an HDMI ready projector. For connectivity it uses VGA, you know the three prongs (red, yellow, white)?

If your HDTV, DVD or Blu-RAY player also has these same VGA ports then great, connectivity shouldn’t be a problem. However, if the device you want to connect to does not have VGA then your only choice would be to buy a VGA to HDMI conversion adapter.

The Epson PowerLite EMP-82 Projector can provide a quality movie viewing experience. We are guessing one of the major reasons it was discontinued was due to the lack of a HDMI port. Read verified purchased reviews at Amazon.

What about pico, mini and pocket projectors

There are a few companies which we would recommend to look at for affordable models. There’s Brookstone and Ivation but by far AAXA is our favorite. They have models which run on either LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) or DLP technologies and as a light source they incorporate either LED or a Laser light source. Below are three AXXA models we would recommend checking out at the $200 and under price range.

cheap Pocket projectorThe AAXA LED Pico Projector with 80 minute battery life – This is the least expensive option. Easily held in your hand with super small (4.2 x 2.4 x 0.7 inches) and light weight (9.6 ounces). It provides a LED light source with 15,000 hours of life and 960 x 540 resolution.

It does include built-in speakers but with the composite A/V connections this also allows the use of an external audio source. Other inputs include – mini-HDMI, Micro SD, USB reader.

For being about the size of an iPhone the picture quality is impressive. It can be powered through a cable but also has internal battery which can hold an 80-minute charge.

AAXA P2 Jr Pico Projector – Out of the three models here this one is priced in the middle. Its dimensions are small at  4.2 x 2.9 x 0.8 inches and its light weight at only 0.3 ounces. The resolution level of this model is native 720p but can support 1080p.

AAXA LED mini under 200

It provides a LED light source with 15,000 hours of life and a built in battery with a 90 minute charge. Of course you could always choose to power it through a cable.

There is an internal speaker and also an audio out allowing the use of an external audio source. Other input ports included are: Mini-HDMI, Mini-VGA A/V, USB or MicroSD reader. From testing, the model can project a 50-inch diagonal image in dimly lite rooms.

AAXA P3-X Pico Projector – This second option is a bit larger but still easily held in the hand. The dimensions are 5.5 x 2.75 x 1 inches and weighs 6.1 ounces. It provides the same LED light source with 15,000 hours of life. The image resolution is WVGA 854 x 480.

Mini projector under 200

Includes built in speakers and also an audio port in case the user would like to use an external audio source. The inputs are: Composite A/V, mini-HDMI, Micro SD, USB reader.

The major differences between this model and the AAXA model listed above are found in brightness and charge of the internal battery. This model is a bit brighter and is capable of producing an 80-inch screen image in dim lighting and the charge life of the battery is a bit longer at 120 hours.
