Find the Best Projector: A Personal Review and Detailed Buyers Guide!

There’s an enormous number of different projectors on the market to choose from. However, there’s a ton of different acronyms and technological terms to understand when reading about these different choices. If you’re not an expert, things can become confusing.

The goal of this review site is to provide you with easy to understand information to help you purchase a projector which best fits your specific needs.

There are many technological questions you may have, we will address these on these on this page and throughout our review site. But beneath all the technical talk there are three simple things you need to consider before getting bogged down with tech terms and these are: Image quality, ease of use and reliability.

In our opinion, these are three most important basic features to consider when rating a projector.

My Personal Review of the Top 5 Projectors

We all have to spend within our personal or company budget. The five choices listed below are not necessarily the best available options on the market, rather they offer good value for their price point.

1. ViewSonic PJD5134 SVGA DLP Projector

What’s good about this ViewSonic Model is #1 – Low Price of $349. It also provides a very good image compared to many of the other models in the same price range (under $400).

Other qualities that owners of the ViewSonic PJD5134 svga DLP appreciate: Lightweight and portable, excellent lamp life, HDMI connectivity and 3D Blu-ray ready.

Hundreds of people have bought this model and left there own personal review. See Best Price, Customer Reviews and Q&A.

Cons: There has been some complaints about the quality of the audio.

Good For: Business and Classroom Presentations.

Final Opinion: Definitely not the best on the market but has a good rating in many different functional categories: Price, image quality, portability, durability, connectivity and 3D ready.

2. BenQ W1070 1080P 3D Home Theater Projector

Ever since the price was reduced by $400, the BenQ W1070 1080P has been a very hot buy at Amazon.  Not sure why the price was reduced but people are buying it up AND leaving very good reviews.

The performance of the BenQ W1070 1080P is unrivaled at it’s price point.

A couple of the most talked about features: Native Full HD 1080P, excellent built in audio performance, 3D Ready, HDMI connectivity.

Another Positive to Consider: Do you want a model for home theater? But does someone else in your family want one good for gaming? The BenQ W1070 is not only great for home theater but also highly rated for gaming use.

Cons: No product is perfect but we haven’t came across any major concerns or complaints on this product. The vast majority of people are extremely pleased with their purchase.

However, there have been some complaints but after looking into these, we consider these minor. In all honesty, most of these can be attributed to either the person not understanding what they are buying or how to use it.

What we will say, this model is meant to be used on a big screen TV and performs better in a dark room vs a room with lights on.

3. Epson VS230 SVGA 3LCD Projector

An inexpensive model great for both business and school presentations. Very bright (2800 lumens), provides an outstanding black and white contrast, prefect for PowerPoint presentations.

If you happen to be looking for an inexpensive gaming projector (under $200), our number #4 choice the Digital Galaxy DG-737 has received many high ratings from other gamers.

The image quality, ease of use and the reliability provided by the the Epson 3020 will end up making any other projector you have previously used seem like a toy.

We are not writing a full review here. There’s many great things to mention about this 2014 Epson PowerLite model.

Since the Epson 3020 only offered 2300 lumens, we were at first a bit skeptical on how this model would preform as a home theater projector. We were worried about how bright it would be and thought the room would need to be completely pitch black to see a picture on the screen.

We ended up completely amazed with its brightness. At 2300 lumens it was so bright we could turn on all the lights in the room and still see a decent picture. Other models we have used would have had their image washed out.

Of course it provided a much better picture in the dark but in a completely lite room it’s good enough we would watch TV or game on it.

Buying the right Projector for You

At the beginning of the page we informed, when buying you should consider the following basic qualities: Image quality, ease of use and reliability.

But there are also more detailed questions you can ask, if you’re a person who needs to know more, we hope we can help you answer all your questions.

For example:

To find one to best fit your needs, you should be able to at least answer few questions. What’s your intended use? Three general categories of use include: Business and Classroom presentations, Home Theater and Gaming.

How Portable do you need your projector to be? They exist in an wide array of different sizes and weights. Some are small enough to fit in your pocket, others are large enough for permanent installation and all sizes in between exist. Do you need a specific technology? There are four general technologies types available, (DLP, LCD, LCOS and Laser Raster). Depending on your intended use each of these technologies will have certain advantages and disadvantages.
