Is the ViewSonic PJD5555W good for PowerPoint Presentations

Can the ViewSonic PJD5555W projector be used for PowerPoint presentations in the office or classroom? Yes, and we will also say in this price range it is one of the better choices. Three main requirements are important for a projector to make a decent model for PowerPoint presentations.

  • Connectivity or Inputs
  • Brightness
  • Resolution

And for some people, portability might also be important.

Connectivity or (Inputs)

The #1 requirement is make sure the projector has a HDMI input. This will allow you to connect to your computer or

laptop in order to run your presentations. Also, if you happen to connect to an external device higher in resolution the presence of an HDMI port will ensure the projector is capable of outputting the content.

The ViewSonic PJD5555W does include a HDMI port.

How much brightness do I need?

Brightness is measured in the unit of lumen. This model is rated at 3200 lumens of brightness. Here are two questions you should answer. How large will your audience be? Do you plan to make presentations with the room lights on?

This model has a 3200 lumen rating, we recommend this level of brightness be use for presentations with audiences of 100 people or less. The room doesn’t need to be completely dark but if you can dim the lights or at least pull the shades down the viewer experience will be better.

We asked how many people will attend your presentations. The more people in attendance, usually means more people will need to sit further away from the screen. This means you will need to produce a larger screen image to accommodate those sitting further back.

This model is capable of producing a 300-inch screen image. Although there will be  some degradation in the quality of the image at this size. For best results we would recommend setting up the ViewSonic PJD5555W projector to project between a 150-200 inche screen image. This should be suitable for audiences of 100 people or less.

ViewSonic PJD5555W works good for PowerPointLevel of Resolution

This is how many pixels are involved in creating an image. Unless you want to pay top dollar, PowerPoint presentations do not require high definition 1080p or 4K resolution. The major of presentations I have sat through mainly consisted of simple text which does not require high resolution.

This model provides a native resolution level of WXGA 1280×800. Not the highest but certainly good enough for reading the text in PowerPoints and also good enough for the images you may want to include in your presentations. Actually, you could also take this home with you and it would provide a decent home movie experience as well.

We should also mention the contrast level provided. This is how distinct black text will appear on the white background of your slides. The contrast levels (or ratio) is very good at 15,000:1 for a projector in the round about price range of $400.

Do you need a portable model?

Some people will need this, others will not. The Product Dimensions and weight of this Viewsonic model are: 9 x 12.4 x 4.1 inches (L x W x H) and 4.8 pounds. While not the smallest, it definitely is not a beast to carry around either. It doesn’t come with a carrying case that we are aware of but if needed you should be able to find one for $25-30.

Is the ViewSonic PJD5555W good for PowerPoint Presentations

We are not going to tell you this is the best possible choice on the market for PowerPoint. There are certainly fancier and higher priced models on the market which provide more advanced features. However, if you only want to spend around $400 (2016 price) the PJD5555W is a very good and capable choice at this price point for both classroom and business presentations.
