LG-Electronics-PF1000U-Ultra-Short-Throw-Smart-Home-Theater-Projector-reviewIf you are interested in buying the LG MiniBeam PF1000U Projector this model does provide more than a few powerful features which we will review here. Overall, we really do like this model but it is definitely not perfect so we will also be mentioning a few areas where the performance could be better.

What might interest you and what initially drew our attention to this model.

If you are looking for an ultra-short-throw projector then you know there is not a huge selection of these types of models currently on the market today. The LG MiniBeam PF1000U happens to be an ultra-short-throw and on top of this it’s also native 1080p high definition resolution and compact (5.2 x 11.1 x 4.5 inches) and lightweight (4.85 lbs). To produce a 100-inch screen image the projector needs only to sit 15 inches from the screen!

Picture Quality and Specification

As we mentioned above this LG mini model provides a native resolution of 1080p high definition. It runs on DLP technology, has a contrast ratio of 150,000:1 and 1000 lumens of brightness through its LED light source.

Overall, the image quality produced was good but we would not rate it as outstanding. We were neither highly impressed nor disappointed.

The color accuracy is decent. Within the menu a range of choices as to how you want to set the colors exist. In fact, there are a lot of different settings to choose from. We definitely recommend testing the colors on these different settings to find the best for you and your room environment.

Rainbow effect Certain people tend to stay away from DLP projectors because they experience what is know as the rainbow effect while viewing screen images. Even though the LG MiniBeam PF1000U is a DLP projector users have reported very little to none rainbow effect. We think this has a lot to do with it running on a LED light source rather than a traditional lamp.

We should mention the LED light provides 30,000 hours of life.

Brightness or lack, effects of room light

How does it handle room and ambient light? This is something you want to be aware of before buying this projector. If you re looking to buy something that can be used during the daytime with light streaming in from the windows or with the room lights on the PF1000U is not the best choice for you.

This short video snippet will show you the differences in the image quality with the lights on compared to when the room lights are shut off:

As you can see from the video above there is a huge difference in the quality of the image when the projector is played in a dark room environment compared to when the lights are on.

Mini projector with TV tuner

Another powerful feature of the PF1000U is it functions as a smart projector with a built-in TV tuner. One could almost think of this model as a TV with a built-in projector.

By connecting it with to a coax cable or through another RF video source this allows you to tune into TV channels. Furthermore, by ethernet cable or using the built-in wireless connection this allow you to use the projector to browse the web or use such streaming services such as NetFlix and VUDU.

Lastly, if you have have a cable box you can also connect to this to view TV channels.

Conclusion – Good choice for the money?

The LG MiniBeam PF1000U Projector definitely allows the user to take advantage of some powerful features:

  • Ultra Short Throw
  • Smart TV (Tuner)
  • Wireless connectivity
  • Full 3D

Furthermore, this is a small projection with which plays content in 1080p high definition resolution.

If the characteristics listed above are important to you then this should be a good match or at least one you might when to compare to other choices.

The biggest negative about this model is the lack of brightness. Before you buy you need to realize this is a model you will want to use with the lights off or in a dimly lite room.
