A question came to us from a person who needs to replace the bulb in their BenQ W1070 projector. Their original bulb exploded and now wants to know which bulb to buy and whether to buy only a replacement bulb or the entire lamp assembly/housing. Also, whether or not there are any safe generic (less expensive) options?
BENQ W1070 Projector Bulb 5J.J7L05.001
The safest (and most expensive) option is to buy the bulb recommended by BenQ, Model Number: 5J.J7L05.001 (See at Amazon). It comes with a 120 day warranty and has an estimated 2,000 hour lifetime on standard setting and 3,000 hours estimated life when the BenQ W1070 is used on the eco setting.
*Directions on how to install a new bulb/lamp can be found in the video at the end of the page.
Buy the bulb or the entire lamp assembly?
Some people do have success with only buying the barebulb. However, most people who know about projectors would probably tell you to buy the entire assembly. This is due to the fact that the heat generated overtime by the original bulb has likely caused some deterioration in the original housing. The housing is meant to protect the internals of the projector from the extreme heat produced by the bulb. If the housing has deteriorated too much this could end up damaging the projector. This is why we recommend buying the entire lamp assembly.
Buying generic or off brand?
Personally, we always buy the bulb recommended by the manufacturer. While a knock-off may work in the BenQ w1070 projector, many times a knock-off doesn’t match the specifications exactly. Resulting in lower image quality compared to the original bulb that came installed.
Furthermore, we like feeling confident that what we buy will work and going with what BenQ or any other projector company recommends provides this feeling of confidence.
If want to buy a cheaper generic replacement lamp for the BenQ w1070, we are sorry to say we have no direct experience with any generics or off brands for this model.
However, we have read a thread in the AVS Forum where generic replacement (See at Amazon) was recommended. We took a look at this recommended generic replacement on Amazon and it has received good ratings and reviews from past customers.
